It’s been a while since I last posted on my blog. As most of you know, the past few weeks were what most of us call "the busiest time of the year" with holiday planning, festivities, and tying up loose ends before the New Year.
I do have a good excuse for not being on here the past few weeks. Yes, I was caught up in all the festivities that comes with this time of year but we also successfully completed our first official campaign for our non-profit, Marpe Global. We closed the campaign, packaged all the donated books into boxes, and contacted our shipping agency to get them delivered to Ghana. I also learned something new; that the shipment of these books will not arrive at the port of Tema, Ghana until February-March 2017!!! Yes, shipping to other parts of the world can take anywhere between 4-6 weeks or longer depending on the location or time of year.
So a little bit about the campaign. Our non-profit, Marpe Global, partnered with the Doreen Bookfarm in Ghana to collect books to encourage literacy and reading among children between the age group of 5-15 years in disadvantaged communities in Ghana. Our initial goal was 100 books and we successfully collected over 200 books that was shipped to Ghana to be distributed to these children. I want to thank all our donors who contributed to such a good cause. It is such a great initiative that we will continue to partner with the Doreen Bookfarm twice a year.
As we get ready to move into the new year, I am going to a once-a-week blog update and will begin working on videos to share with you in the coming weeks. What plans do you have for the new year? What would you like to hear about?
If you would like to make a contribution to Marpe Global, please do so here.
