There are countries to which we travel, and imagine staying. To me, such a place is Puebla, Mexico. A colonial wonder city complete with rich history, ancient artifacts, and emblematic and delicious food. It is also one of the safest cities in Mexico.
The historic downtown center is the place to stay, surrounded by beautiful architecture and vintage buildings.
Everywhere you look, you find a relaxed atmosphere packed with a wealth of history and culture.
I still love the art on the streets. Always colorful and vibrant.
There are also many places to sample street food or you can always try the local tacos árabes (Latin-accented version of shawarma), made with meat on a rotating skewer and served as a taco. This was supposedly brought to the country by the wave of Lebanese immigrants who arrived in the 1930s and recreated shawarma, on this continent.
You can also have a healthy fruit snack from a street vendor. Most snacks are topped with chile, lime, and salt. A mix between sour and spicy.
Interested in shopping? You can find great stores if you come to shop in Puebla's crafts and antique markets. Here you find friendly people, unique designs and patterns, and stunning pieces of art.
So if you are ever thinking of a place to visit, Puebla is always worthy of a weekend.
